Film di apertura all’ultima Mostra del Cinema (Coppa Volpi per l’interprete femminile Emma Stone), trionfatore agli ultimi Goldel Globe, La -La Land si pone il difficile obiettivo di riportare sullo schermo tre magie: 1) il mito di Hollywood e comunque del Cinema, 2) il Jazz, 3) i cari e vecchi musical degli anni cinquanta stile Gene Kelly. E bisogna dire che l’operazione è riuscita.
Il film parte con un gran ballo collettivo con centinaia di ballerini che scendono dalle loro auto imbottigliate in un’autostrada Los Angelina, seguiti dall’inizio alla fine con un unico piano sequenza. Prosegue poi seguendo le vicende di due ragazzi che si innamorano, gli efficaci Ryan Gosling e la già citata Stone.
Nelle parti di un abile jazzista disoccupato lui, e di un’aspirante attrice lei, i due si aggirano tra musica e danza in una Los Angeles che si divide tra i sogni e delusioni. Queste ultime caratterizzeranno in particolare la seconda parte del film, forse meno scoppiettante ed entusiasmante della prima, per poi arrivare nuovamente alla frenesia nel finale.
Non si tirino indietro gli scettici del musical, perché se amano il cinema comunque gradiranno questo film che dopotutto fa gioire gli occhi, le orecchie e la testa. Forse un po’ meno i cuori se siete molto sensibili

Opening film at the last Venice Film Festival (Coppa Volpi for the female interpreter Emma Stone), triumphant at the last Golden Globes, La -La Land sets itself the difficult objective of bringing three magic back to the screen: 1) the myth of Hollywood and in any case of Cinema, 2) Jazz, 3) the good old Gene Kelly-style musicals of the fifties. And it must be said that the operation was a success.
The film begins with a large collective dance with hundreds of dancers getting out of their cars stuck in a Los Angelina highway, followed from beginning to end with a single take. It then continues following the events of two boys who fall in love, the effective Ryan Gosling and the aforementioned Stone. In the roles of a skilled unemployed jazz musician, he and an aspiring actress, the two wander between music and dance in a Los Angeles that is divided between dreams and disappointments. The latter will particularly characterize the second part of the film, perhaps less crackling and exciting than the first, before reaching frenzy again at the end.
The skeptics of the musical should not hold back, because if they love cinema they will still like this film which, after all, makes the eyes, ears and head rejoice. Maybe a little less hearts if you are very sensitive.
